Ellen has been involved with youth work for a number of years through Girlguiding UK, helping first as a young leader, then as a fully warranted Guide Guider. She is still involved as Assistant Guider for Gorrell Guides, based in Whitstable. She has also been involved with the Scout Association, volunteering at an Explorer Scout Unit in Shropshire, where she is originally from. Ellen moved to Canterbury in 2004 to undertake a degree in Psychology with Studies in Europe at the University of Kent. After completing her degree, which included modules on child development and adolescence, as well as group behaviour and substance misuse, she came into post as the youth worker for The Bay Project in July 2008. She has done her 7 C’s training, enabling her to be a registration point for the C Card scheme, and has completed the Introduction To Youth Work course through Kent County Council. She is also trained in First Aid and has a Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering. When she isn’t working or volunteering with Girlguiding UK, Ellen is a cheerleader and dancer with the Mavericks Cheerleaders in Canterbury.
The Bay Project is a legacy funded initiative, for The Salvation Army to serve young people and families of Herne Bay in practical ways and to find hope and fulfilment for their future.
